10 desktop snaps written in September

We’ve been speaking a lot around snaps…and as a re-cap for those that may not know, snaps are a new way for developers to package their apps, bringing with it many advantages over the more traditional package formats such as .deb, .rpm, and others. They are secure, isolated and allow apps to be rolled back should an issue occur. Snaps really are the future of Linux application packaging.

For the past few months we’ve been selecting 10 of our favourite Desktop snaps from the previous months…and we’ve had an awesome array. September hasn’t disappointed and we’ve got a nice mix from course guides to a virtual Rubik’s cube!

  • Snap-codelabs – Learn how to use and create snaps with this step by step course
  • Nutty – Essential information on network related aspects
  • Claws-mail-moon127 – A lightweight and highly configurable email client and news reader based on the GTK+ GUI toolkit
  • Bitlbee-sajoupa – BitlBee brings IM (instant messaging) to IRC clients
  • Mosquitto-simple – A message broker that supports version 3.1 and 3.1.1 of the MQTT protocol
  • Sensors Unity – Allows monitoring the output of the `sensors` command graphically
  • Baugeschichte – View images and the history of buildings in a city downloaded from www.housetrails.org
  • RubeCube – Play with a virtual cube, similar to one invented by Erno Rubik, through an intuitive mouse-driven interface
  • Tmx – A terminal multiplexer combining the features of screen and gnome-terminal
  • Emoj – Find relevant emoji from text on the command-line
  • Learn more about snaps below!
